Polymarket Review 2025: Honest Assessment After 1 Year of Trading
After trading on Polymarket for over a year and placing hundreds of bets, here is my honest review. I will cover what works, what does not, and whether Polymarket is worth your time in 2025.
Polymarket at a Glance
| Founded | 2020 |
| Platform Type | Decentralized prediction market |
| Currency | USDC (stablecoin) |
| US Availability | No (restricted) |
| Trading Fees | 0% maker, 2% taker |
| Minimum Deposit | No minimum |
What I Like About Polymarket
1. Market Variety
Polymarket has the widest selection of markets I have seen. Politics, crypto, sports, entertainment, economics, science—if something is happening in the world, there is probably a market for it. This variety keeps things interesting and provides more opportunities to find edge.
2. Deep Liquidity
Major markets have excellent liquidity. During the 2024 election, the presidential market had millions in volume daily. This means you can enter and exit positions without significant slippage, which is crucial for serious trading.
3. Low Fees
Polymarket's fee structure is competitive: 0% for makers and 2% for takers. Compare this to sportsbooks with 5-10% vig, and the advantage is clear. Lower fees mean more of your edge translates to profit.
4. Transparent Pricing
Unlike sportsbooks where odds are set by the house, Polymarket prices come from supply and demand. You can see the order book, understand where prices are, and make informed decisions. This transparency is refreshing.
5. Fast Deposits
Credit card deposits work instantly with reasonable fees. Crypto deposits are also fast once you understand the Polygon network. Getting money in is not a barrier like it can be on other platforms.
What I Dislike About Polymarket
1. US Restrictions
Polymarket is not available to US residents. This is a significant limitation that excludes a large potential user base. If you are in the US, you will need to look at alternatives like Kalshi.
2. Resolution Delays
Some markets take longer to resolve than expected. I have waited days for obvious outcomes to settle, which is frustrating when your capital is locked up. Most resolve quickly, but the exceptions are annoying.
3. Thin Markets
While major markets have great liquidity, niche markets can be thin. Trying to take meaningful positions in smaller markets often means significant slippage. This limits opportunities in less popular categories.
4. Mobile Experience
The mobile web experience is functional but not great. There is no native app, and the mobile site can be clunky. If you prefer trading on your phone, this is a noticeable weakness.
5. Customer Support
When issues arise, getting help can be slow. There is no phone support, and email responses can take days. Discord is often faster for getting answers, but that is not ideal for serious traders.
Polymarket Fees Breakdown
- Trading fees: 0% maker, 2% taker
- Deposit fees: 0% for crypto, 3.5% for cards
- Withdrawal fees: Network gas only
- Account fees: None
The 2% taker fee is charged when you buy at the current market price. If you place limit orders and wait for them to fill, you pay no trading fee. This incentivizes patient trading.
How Does Polymarket Compare?
Polymarket vs Kalshi
Kalshi is CFTC-regulated and available to US residents, but has fewer markets and higher fees. If you are in the US, Kalshi is your only regulated option. If you are outside the US, Polymarket offers more opportunities.
Polymarket vs PredictIt
PredictIt has an 850-share limit and higher fees (10% on profits plus 5% on withdrawals). It is available to US residents but less liquid. PredictIt is better for small positions; Polymarket is better for serious trading.
Who Should Use Polymarket?
Polymarket is ideal for:
- Non-US residents interested in prediction markets

- Those seeking lower fees than sportsbooks
- Analysts who want diverse market options
- Serious traders with larger position sizes
Who Should NOT Use Polymarket?
- US residents (legally prohibited)

Tips for New Polymarket Traders
- Start small: Learn the interface with small positions before scaling up
- Use limit orders: Save 2% by placing maker orders instead of market orders
- Research resolution criteria: Know exactly how markets resolve before betting
- Diversify: Spread risk across multiple markets and categories
- Track performance: Keep records to understand your actual edge
My Verdict: 4 out of 5 Stars
Polymarket is the best prediction market platform available for non-US residents. The market variety, liquidity, and low fees create a genuinely good trading environment. The main drawbacks—US restrictions and occasional resolution delays—are frustrating but not dealbreakers.
If you are serious about prediction market trading and are outside the US, Polymarket should be your primary platform. Just remember that making consistent profits requires skill and analysis, not just access to a good platform.
Key Takeaways
- Polymarket offers the widest market selection and best liquidity
- Fees are competitive: 0% maker, 2% taker
- Not available to US residents
- Best for serious traders comfortable with crypto
- Success requires analysis and skill, not just platform access
